It's official: Julia Roberts' time in front of the cameras on Amazon's Homecoming has come to an end.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Roberts' initial deal for Homecoming — the star's first TV series regular role — was for a one-season commitment based purely on the Amazon drama's creative storyline. That said, Roberts will still remain involved as an executive producer alongside showrunner Sam Esmail on the Universal Cable Productions series that landed at Amazon with a two-season commitment.

Sony Pictures is getting the wheels in motion for the next installment in the “Ghostbusters” franchise, and it knows who it’s going to call to direct: Jason Reitman.

Sources tell Variety that Reitman, whose father, Ivan, directed the first two “Ghostbusters” movies, will direct the latest pic in the famous franchise.

Reitman has also co-written a screenplay with Gil Kenan and plans to shoot the film this summer, with Sony planning to release the latest sequel in summer 2020. Insiders say this film will be a continuation of the 1984 sequel and will not be connected to the 2016 film. Sources couldn’t say if that means that the original cast members will be back, as exact story details are still being kept under wraps.

Ivan Reitman’s Montecito Pictures is producing and insiders close to Ivan say he believes this film is a passing of the torch.

Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray are set to reunite for the first time since Murray’s Oscar-nominated turn in her 2003 film “Lost in Translation.”

The two will work together again in “On the Rocks,” which Coppola is writing and directing with Murray to star opposite Rashida Jones, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.

“On the Rocks” will also be the first film under the recently formed partnership between A24 and Apple.

Produced by Coppola and Youree Henley, “On the Rocks” follows a young mother (Jones) who reconnects with her larger-than-life playboy father (Murray) on an adventure through New York City. Production begins this spring on location in New York.

Back in November 2018, Apple and A24 entered into a multi-year agreement in which the studio will produce a slate of several films for the tech giant,

Danny Glover has joined the cast of Sony’s “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” sequel.

His role is being kept under wraps, as is the storyline. Glover will star opposite Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan, all of whom are set to return.

Awkwafina is in final negotiations for a significant part in the film and Danny DeVito has also joined the cast.

Jake Kasdan returns to direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. Kasdan is also producing with Matt Tolmach and Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions.

The untitled movie will open on Dec. 13, a week before Disney-Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: Episode IX” launches.

Matt Walsh has been tapped for a lead role in the upcoming ABC single-camera comedy pilot “Happy Accident.”

In the series, two Pittsburgh families – a father (Walsh) with three adult daughters, and a hotel lounge singer with her med student son – are forced together after a decades-old secret is revealed.

Walsh currently stars in the acclaimed HBO comedy “Veep,” which will launch its final season this year. His other notable roles include appearances in comedies like “The Hangover,” “Ted,” “Role Models,” and the “Ghostbusters” reboot. He is also known for being a founding member of the Upright Citizens Brigade along with Matt Besser,

DJ Khaled has rounded out the cast of Sony’s upcoming “Bad Boys” sequel “Bad Boys for Life,” joining returning stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

Khaled will also join series newcomers Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Jacob Scipio, and Paola Nu?ez. Joe Pantoliano is on board to return as Captain Howard.

Production is currently under way.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are on hand to direct the sequel from a script by Peter Craig with Joe Carnahan also doing a rewrite. Chris Bremmer is the current writer.

Jerry Bruckheimer returns as producer. Doug Belgrad will also produce, as will Smith. Barry Waldman, Mike Stenson, Chad Oman, and James Lassiter are executive producers.

The story revolves around a modern, highly specialized police unit that collides with the old school Bad Boys (Smith and Lawrence) when a new threat emerges in Miami. The pic will bow on Jan. 17, 2020.

Corey Stoll and Billy Magnussen are set to join the ensemble of the “The Sopranos” movie prequel, “The Many Saints of Newark.”

They join Alessandro Nivola, Jon Bernthal, and Vera Farmiga, who had previously been added to the cast. More players from the “Sopranos” lore are expected to be coming on board.

New Line could not be reached for comment on the casting.

The film is set during the Newark riots in the ’60s.

Series creator David Chase co-wrote the script with producer Lawrence Konner. Alan Taylor is directing “The Many Saints of Newark,” while Nicole Lambert and Marcus Viscidi are executive producing. Chase has been hands on from the get-go in the casting process, hand-picking Nivola to play Dickie Moltisanti, along with Stoll and Magnussen in their mystery roles.

Stoll has been busy on both the big and small screens, most recently appearing as Buzz Aldrin in “First Man.

Yesterday we learned the exciting news that Christopher McQuarrie would return to direct Tom Cruise in two more Mission: Impossible sequels that he would shoot back-to-back. I expected at least one more sequel, but getting the news that there would be two of them was pretty cool!

McQuarrie is obviously very committed to the franchise. He’s so committed, in fact, that he turned down several offers to direct other movies for various studios that courted him. According to THR, Warner Bros. "even tried to seduce him with DC projects." But, McQuarrie ended up choosing to turn down these opportunities so that he could continue to work on the M:I franchise, which he obviously loves!

While it would have been great to see McQuarrie take on a DC project, the DC films aren’t going anywhere anytime soon and WB will still be making DC movies when McQuarrie is done working on the M:I franchise.

CNN’s “New Day” fell further behind its cable rivals in viewership in 2018, sinking nearly 9 percent in total viewers and 17 percent in the key news demographic of 25- to 54-year-olds.

And the picture has gotten worse since the morning show’s popular co-host Chris Cuomo left the show last May for his own primetime gig, an analysis of Nielsen data reveals.

For the first five months of last year, when Cuomo was still on in the mornings, “New Day” slipped about 4 percent in average total viewership and 10 percent in the key demo from 2017 levels.

But that ratings slide nearly doubled in the second half of the year, after John Berman replaced Cuomo on the morning desk (Alisyn Camerota has remained as co-host). The post-Cuomo “New Day” averaged just 554,000 total viewers and 172,000 in the demo — which admittedly was still above the show’s 2016 ratings totals.

Munich-based Alamode has taken German and Austrian rights to Lone Scherfig’s “The Kindness of Strangers,” ahead of the picture’s opening-night gala screening at the Berlin Film Festival next month.

Alamode acquired the rights from London-based HanWay Films, which is handling worldwide sales. Entertainment One is distributing the film in Canada and Sf Studios in Scandinavia.

Danish director Scherfig’s ensemble drama is set in a Russian restaurant in New York and is billed as “a tale about hope, forgiveness and love.” The film stars Zoe Kazan, Andrea Riseborough, Tahar Rahim, Caleb Landry Jones, Jay Baruchel, and Bill Nighy.

Kazan plays Clara, a mother with an abusive cop husband, and Riseborough is Alice, an ER nurse who runs a therapy group. Rahim is Marc, the restaurant manager; Landry Jones is Jeff, a young guy looking for a job; and Baruchel plays John, a lawyer with self-esteem issues. Nighy plays Timofey,

In Robert Pattinson’s latest film “High Life,” he plays a new father caring for his child aboard a space station. That may sound clinical and somber enough, but seeing as this film is actually the English language debut from the French auteur Claire Denis, that’s certainly not all this movie has to offer.

Juliette Binoche, Mia Goth and Andre Benjamin co-star in Denis’ “High Life,” which critics have called “eerily sexy” and which even contains Binoche portraying a crazed nurse and scientist who collects and samples Pattinson’s semen.

A24 refers to “High Life” as “a staggering and primal film about love and intimacy, suffused with anguished memories of a lost Earth.” Though the trailer goes deeper into explaining that Pattinson’s character is an outcast from society who has now been selected, along with several others, to be used in a science experiment.

Puerto Rico, whoa. Jimmy Fallon visited the Caribbean island and U.S. territory on Tuesday to pal around with Lin-Manuel Miranda and then do a little zip-lining. He enjoyed the former activity much more than the latter.

Though afraid of heights, Fallon allowed himself to be strapped in to the “Monster” zip line course — yeah, it’s a big, fast, scary one. When he finally reached safety, the “Tonight Show” host exclaimed “Get me home!”

He then thought better of it and went with “Get me to a bar” instead. Smart.

Santana will celebrate two important anniversaries in the band’s history on its upcoming tour: the 20th anniversary of their blockbuster Supernatural album and the 50th anniversary of their legacy-making performance at Woodstock. The trek, dubbed Supernatural Now, will kick off this June with a gig in Phoenix and snake across the U.S. before wrapping in August in Long Island, New York. The gigs will include a stop at Live Nation’s Woodstock 50th anniversary tribute concert in Bethel, New York. The Doobie Brothers will serve as special guests on all dates.

Voltage Pictures will produce and fully finance screenwriter David Loughery’s latest thriller “Blackwing,” Variety has learned exclusively.

The company will introduce “Blackwing” to buyers at the upcoming European Film Market at the Berlin Film Festival, which opens Feb. 7.

Nicolas Chartier and Dominic Rustam are producing, and Jonathan Deckter is executive producing for Voltage Pictures. Brad Kaplan and Loughery are also executive producing.

“Blackwing” is being described as reminiscent of “Breakdown,” starring Kurt Russell, and Stephen Spielberg’s “Duel.” The story centers on a pilot playing a deadly game of cat and mouse with an airborne serial killer.

Loughery wrote and executive produced the psychological thriller “The Intruder,” starring Dennis Quaid and Meagan Good, with Screen Gems planning a May 3 release. He also wrote the thrillers “Obsessed,” starring Beyonce and Idris Elba, and “Lakeview Terrace,” starring Samuel L. Jackson and Kerry Washington.

Grindr laid off its entire editorial and social team for its Lgbt news service Into on Tuesday, explaining in a statement that the website was looking to move away from writing and focus more on video content.

“As with any growing business, we have to continually evaluate what is best for Grindr. After a thoughtful and collaborative process, Grindr’s leadership decided to modify Into’s content mix to rely more heavily on video,” the company said in a statement to TheWrap.

“This decision was driven by the high user engagement and development we see through channels such as Twitter and YouTube. With this strategic shift in focus, several Into employees will be leaving the company. This was a difficult decision and one that we do not take lightly. We want to thank these colleagues for all of their contributions to Grindr and our community.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda, in his return to Hamilton, performed the musical’s “The Story of Tonight” alongside the show’s cast and Jimmy Fallon as The Tonight Show traveled Tuesday to Puerto Rico, where Miranda is staging a Hamilton residency to benefit the hurricane-ravaged island.

Miranda, back in the Alexander Hamilton role after two-and-a-half years, and his Puerto Rico production’s cast delivered a spot-on rendition of the uplifting track.
